The harvesting of rare earth elements is inevitable as our society strives for new and innovative technology. Society is easily glamorized into purchasing the newest iterations of technology. There is nothing wrong with this, but we can make a difference by how we choose to treat our devices once they've reached their end. We just hope we can all make a concerted effort towards the well being of our environment, economy and even our health.

E-CYCLING
Sustainability and green living has been a mantra here in the Northwest for many years. The locals pride themselves for driving electric cars, using compostable coffee cups, installing solar panels, and the list goes on. Did you know there are many companies in the Portland area that will be happy to take in your used electronic devices? Well there are! This process of electronic recycling is naturally called “E-Cycling”, a free service if you bring your items to one of the many drop-off facilities.

Getting Your Employers Involved
We would like to encourage businesses to promote E-Cycling and host their own event. Most of the recycling companies are more than happy to come out to your location for a small fee. Purging old equipment could make room for better use of space. Make sure you’re the one bringing up the great idea at the next department meeting!
